Simola Hillclimb - How to follow the action

Simola Hillclimb

Excitement is brewing for the 12th edition of the Simola Hillclimb as competitors make their way to Knysna, and final preparations are made for the roar of finely tuned road and race cars to resonate off the Simola Hill from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 May 2022.

Although many eager fans may not be able to attend this year’s event, the great news is that there will once again be live coverage of the 2022 Simola Hillclimb, both on SABC and via the dedicated livestream.

UPDATE: You can also view the Friday livestream on the Cars.co.za Youtube Channel here.

“We know that a lot of people who would have liked to attend the 2022 Simola Hillclimb weren’t able to get tickets due to the limited spectator numbers based on the COVID-19 restrictions. We also have thousands of enthusiasts in South Africa and around the world that follow this event online each year, so the live crossings on SABC and the full livestream are essential outlets for us to engage with a wider audience,” says Ian Shrosbree, MD of Knysna Speed Festival, the owner of the Simola Hillclimb.

“This is our second year with SABC as our free-to-air national broadcast partner through to 2024, which allows us to reach a broader spectrum of sports fans,” Shrosbree says. “Our livestream numbers are also growing significantly each year. In 2021 we had 178 065 views of the livestream and a total of 2 155 073 minutes viewed, which further reinforces the Simola Hillclimb’s status as one of South Africa’s premier motoring and motorsport lifestyle events.”

Cars.co.za participation

As is the case almost every year, Cars.co.za and SentiMETAL will have a significant presence at the event, with Gero Lilleike due to make his debut on Classic Car Friday in a Ford Model A, and Ciro de Siena venturing up the twisty hill in something all-new, and all-electric from BMW... (Tune in to see!)

SABC will host live crossings on each of the three days:
