Stunners Headline Next Creative Rides Auction

From classic sports machines to some really rare limited-production cars, the Creative Rides’ September auction offers something for everyone.

During the past few years Creative Rides has sold one of the largest private collections in the country, while its other (and increasingly regular) auctions have given enthusiasts the opportunity to acquire some very tantalising classic and modern classic cars. The company’s next auction is earmarked for the 7th to  the 8th of September and will take place at Montecasino in Johannesburg. It is public knowledge that in many cases, the rarer the car, the higher its value tend to be versus models of which more were produced.

Creative Rides CEO Kevin Derrick explains: “As cars age, the rarity factor becomes more pronounced, especially if cars are well-maintained or restored to their original condition. This makes them extremely desirable to collectors; the fewer units available, the greater the value perception. Rare cars are harder to find and they often have unique features or specifications not found in mass-produced models. It’s also common sense that the basic principle of supply and demand means fewer examples increase market appetite and push up prices.”

A rare Porsche

One of the highlights at this year’s auction includes a 1963 Porsche 365B Cabriolet. This is one of “fewer than 60 Porsches that the German manufacturer ever permitted to be built outside of Germany.” These 356s were imported into South Africa in semi-knocked down format and assembled in Johannesburg.

This specific car underwent a three-year restoration by a select group of Porsche experts, primarily at Carrera Motors Johannesburg. The car has been painted in a new dark blue colour and features a new top as well as a tonneau cover. The restoration also included a new set of tyres while the rebuilt engine is said to run perfectly. Included in the sale is an extensive history book and the 356’s original birth certificate.

A '90s Ferrari

If your love for cars tends to be tilted towards those originating from Italy, there is also a 1995 Ferrari 348 GTB on auction. According to Creative Rides this is one of only 14 right-hand drive examples produced. The 348 GTB followed after the 348 TB. While the latter produced 221 kW from its 3.4-litre, V8 engine, in the GTB it was improved to 235 kW. The GTB is far more collectable than the TB of which many more were produced. Creative Rides also confirmed that “the model on auction has been fitted with a Challenge body kit, but original parts are available in the sale”. Importantly, a major service is said to have been done while a new set of tyres have been fitted.

Another highlight is a South African homologation special in the shape of the a 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV6 3.0. Creative Rides pointed out that they have auctioned these Alfa Romeos before and that they have broken records in the process and remains in high demand. Again, only 212 of these cars were manufactured.

Two other stand-out cars include a 2011 BMW E92 M3 Frozen Edition (one of only 25 ever released for our market) with only 34 000 km on the odo and a 2016 Jaguar F-Type Project 7 – one of only 250 manufactured globally.
