This 1936 Graham Crusader 80 four-door sedan has a well-documented history and has until recently been used as a daily driver. Consequently it is well-maintained and in very good condition. The first owner lived in Johannesburg, and the car was kept at the original address for 60 years, before it was purchased by Jakes Car Sales, who intended restoring it, but didn't have the time.

The current owner bought the Crusader in 2004 and found it was very complete, down to its original handbook, set of keys, spare wheel tyre and lock and cover and jack. It also appeared to have its original brake linings and spark plugs!

The original upholstery and roofling are in good condition, except for the front seat, which has been reupholstered with new leather. All four doors, door handles, locks and window winders work perfectly after lubrication. The driver's door exterior handle, however, needs repairs.

The wiring is essentially still original 6 volt, but the current owner has incorporated a 12 volt alternator and battery to drive a 12v fuel pump, front spotlight, indicators and starter.

The bumpers, mudguards, bonnet, running boards, radiator, cowl, wheel covers and headlights were removed and sandblasted together with the bare body (outside surfaces only) and repainted in a controlled environment by Anvil Panelbeaters of Boltonia in Krugersdorp. The colour is a close match for the original paint.

All bolts and nuts were removed easily and oiled and re-used. The windscreen frame and front bumper were rechromed, but the rear bumper is still untouched. Note that the lower bar under front window frame is now rusting.

The rubbers for the rear window, running boards, brake and clutch pedals and the floor covering below the front seats have been replaced.

The original fabric roof has been replaced with vinyl and boasts a new thick felt underlay. All interior woodwork (oak) is in excellent condition and there is very little rust in the body.

Mechanically, the slave cylinders are all in good condition, but the master cylinder has a new stainless sleeve and all-new rubbers. The engine has received new spark plugs, a new radiator core, new engine mounts and a new fabricated cylinder head. The fuel tank has been replaced.

The car does, however, need new tyres.
