When it comes to two-door cars with the Three-Pointed star on the nose, the SL range has always been a benchmark-setting machine. And so it was with the R129 generation, launched in 1989, at which time it was one of the most advanced cars on the market with, for example, an automatically deployed roll-bar in the case of an accident.

It also comes from a time when Mercedes-Benzes were still "over-engineered" and so these R129s are tough cars. This example has covered 121 000 miles (around 194 000km) and still feels solid on the road, while its interior has worn remarkably well.
